Tamarind Ice Cream | Food Your Body Will Thank You For

Why Tamarind? Tamarind is a sticky, sour-tasting fruit that grows in large brown pods. It is rich in vitamins, minerals, and tartaric acid (a known antioxidant). But most importantly, because it’s DELICIOUS! It has a tangy, citrusy kind of flavor that complements the maple syrup in this recipe perfectly.

This recipe is definitely kid-approved—my 5-year-old tried to eat MY serving.

Tamarind Ice Cream (serves 2)

  • 1 c. raw milk or cream
  • 1/2 t. tamarind paste (I use THIS one)
  • 1/4 t. organic vanilla extract (I use THIS one)
  • 3 T. organic maple syrup (I use THIS one)
  • 1 pastured or organic egg yolk
  • pinch of unrefined salt (I use THIS one)


  1. Place all ingredients in a mason jar and shake well.
  2. Prepare according to your ice cream maker’s instructions.

NOTE: Homemade ice creams tend to melt fast, so start eating as SOON as it’s served :-)

    Nice to include links to the ingredients, however, the shipping for the tamarind is $2.00 MORE than the item itself! No thanks!!!

      I included the link so you you would know which brand I used. I purchased it locally from an Iranian deli. Look locally and perhaps you’ll get lucky.
