Aztec Chocolate Ice Cream

Aztec Chocolate Ice Cream-Food Your Body Will Thank You For

What started out as an attempt to create Mexican hot chocolate ice cream turned into something even more vibrant. It’s chocolatey, it’s slightly spicy, and its richness is balanced by the maple syrup and the bananas I paired it with. And, most importantly, my 3-year-old LOVED it!! I hope you enjoy this sweat treat as much as my family did! <3

Aztec Chocolate Ice Cream

You’ll need:

  • 1 c. raw cream, organic heavy cream, or full-fat coconut milk
  • 1 c. raw or organic milk
  • 2 pastured or organic egg yolks
  • 1 t organic vanilla (source)
  • 1/4 + 2 T. organic maple syrup (source)
  • 2 T. raw cacao powder (source)
  • Spice mix (see below)

Spice Mix (organic when possible!)

  • 1-1-1/2 t. cinnamon (See source)
  • 1/8 t. nutmeg
  • 1/8 t. cayenne
  • scant 1/8 tsp. chili powder (optional)
  • 1/8 t. unrefined salt (see source)
  • 1 T coconut palm sugar (optional, but if you omit it, increase the maple syrup to 1/2 c.—source)

Put all ingredients in a blender (or use an immersion blender) until mixed well (10-15 seconds).

Make ice cream according to your ice cream maker’s instructions. Please read the instructions carefully if this is your first time…I almost broke my ice cream maker because I forgot to turn it on BEFORE I poured the ingredients in!

Enjoy! <3
